Technology Technician / Safety & Facilities Support

Position Title: Technology Technician / Safety & Facilities Support

Reports To: Principal/Superintendent

FLSA Status: Non-Exempt (or Exempt if appropriate under district policy)

Primary Purpose

Provide leadership and technical support for all district technology systems while assisting with campus safety, security, and general maintenance. The Technology Technician will ensure reliable operation of district technology infrastructure, protect district networks through cybersecurity best practices, maintain safety and security systems, and perform routine maintenance duties that support a safe and efficient learning environment.

Qualifications

Education

  • High school diploma or GED required
  • Associate's degree or technical certifications preferred
  • Industry certifications (CompTIA A+, Network+, Security+, Google, Microsoft, Cisco, etc.) preferred

Experience

  • Experience supporting computers, networks, and educational technology
  • Experience with cybersecurity practices
  • Experience with surveillance camera systems, access control systems, and network infrastructure
  • General maintenance experience preferred
  • Valid Texas driver's license

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

Technology Support

  • Maintain district computers, laptops, Chromebooks, printers, interactive displays, and peripherals.
  • Install, configure, and troubleshoot hardware and software.
  • Manage user accounts, passwords, and permissions.
  • Maintain wireless and wired network infrastructure.
  • Install software updates and security patches.
  • Maintain inventory of technology equipment.
  • Assist staff with technology integration and troubleshooting.
  • Coordinate technology purchases with the Superintendent.

Cybersecurity

  • Implement cybersecurity best practices consistent with state and federal guidance.
  • Monitor network security and investigate unusual activity.
  • Maintain endpoint protection and antivirus software.
  • Assist with phishing awareness and cybersecurity training for staff.
  • Maintain secure backup procedures.
  • Assist with disaster recovery planning.
  • Ensure compliance with district cybersecurity policies.

School Safety & Security

Consistent with current Texas school safety expectations:

  • Conduct routine exterior and interior door security checks.
  • Inspect classroom door hardware to ensure doors lock properly.
  • Monitor and maintain security camera systems.
  • Maintain access control systems, key cards, and electronic locks.
  • Assist with visitor management technology.
  • Support emergency communication systems.
  • Participate in required safety audits and inspections.
  • Assist with implementation of district emergency operations procedures.
  • Help ensure compliance with Texas school safety requirements.

Network & Infrastructure

  • Maintain network switches, wireless access points, and internet connectivity.
  • Coordinate with internet service providers and vendors.
  • Maintain server equipment and cloud-based systems.
  • Monitor system performance and uptime.
  • Assist with technology planning and upgrades.
  • Install, troubleshoot, repair, and maintain network infrastructure, including switches, wireless access points, network cabling, fiber, patch panels, security cameras, door access systems, and related technology equipment.

Maintenance Support

As assigned:

  • Perform minor building repairs.
  • Replace lights and ceiling tiles.
  • Assemble furniture and classroom equipment.
  • Assist with grounds and campus upkeep.
  • Perform preventative maintenance inspections.
  • Assist with event setup and teardown.
  • Coordinate repairs with outside contractors when necessary.

Compliance

  • Maintain documentation for technology inventory.
  • Assist with technology portions of district audits.
  • Support compliance with the Texas Education Agency, the Texas Department of Information Resources, and applicable cybersecurity requirements.
  • Maintain confidentiality of district data and student information.
  • Support district technology and safety initiatives.

Other Duties

  • Participate in professional development.
  • Attend required meetings.
  • Respond to technology emergencies outside normal work hours as needed.
  • Perform other duties as assigned by the Principal/Superintendent.

Physical Requirements

  • Lift up to 75 pounds.
  • Climb ladders.
  • Work indoors and outdoors in varying weather conditions.
  • Frequent standing, walking, bending, reaching, and carrying equipment.
